Nobody else celebrates art the way Chingkeetea does.

A little past five, after an eventful day at work, a friend and I decided to head over to Chingkeetea to witness the Mini Art Fair and unwind over a cup of milk tea. How they make us fall in love with it all over again, I don’t have any idea, but I reckon it is simply pure magic.

That day, the walkway to the main tea shop held an array of Cagayan de Oro’s homegrown artists- Arkadia, Circulo de Arte, Che Roa, Kagaya Non, Manna & Quail, Tasyong Bulag, Sims, Ichinyu, Angel, The Uncurated Foundry and V&M Naturals- showcased some of their notable works to the public. The artists also put them out as products to the market for anyone who wishes to purchase them. From paintings, calligraphy typographies, comic books and other visual art, you name it, Chingkeetea has gathered them all in one place- magnifying both the artists who made them and the onlookers who truly appreciate and patronize their work.

Music was then the focal point by evening. We didn’t know until then that the city that we’ve grown into, hid so many gems we haven’t seen and heard of yet. The musicians who performed such as Just Boys and The Locals, captured the artistry they have represented. They were, without a doubt, sweet music to everyone’s ears, lulling us calmly to the end of our busy week. The anticipated poetry night took place at the last day of the art fair with “Gravity” as its theme. It was hosted by the Nagkahiusang Magsusulat sa Cagayan de Oro (NAGMAC). Seats were fully occupied and words spilled out to the audience throughout the night.

It was a sight to see really, how vibrant and alive art is after all. People came and went to support, as well as partake, in the craft that the city deeply treasures.
